Ducks crossing - sign of something?

Quite a bit of Waiheke is being returned to natural bush. Farming was pretty uneconomic here because of the added transport cost we were told. The grassland and introduced gorse is being replaced by Manuka and Flax etc. The gorse dies from lack of light as the other plants grow but does leave behind nitrogen and other nutrients so whoever brought it over should not feel too guilty. The effects of the re-bush are to reduce erosion, attract the birdies and, most importantly for us, provide some lovely walking areas. Quite a few tracks have been marked out and we tried a few in the spring sunshine. A lot of the hilltops are dominated by very expensive looking properties, imagine they are holiday homes for wealthy Aucklanders. Wine making appears to have flourished since my last visit. Bit of a wine tour tourist industry has built up on the back of it - hic! We stayed in a very nice Apartment in Oneroa, fully equipped for 100 NZ dollars a night.
