NZ Holiday - Nelson City

Wet day in Nelson
Walking to the Cathedral
South Street Nelson
South Street - Wisteria in blossom
Stormy weather initiated a trip to the City of Nelson. Great weather for Ducks, although the ones we saw in Queens Park were struggling to make headway in the muddy water. Nice trees in Queens Park. The normally bustling Nelson Saturday Market was a bit of a washout. Most of the stall holders probably decided to give it a miss. The City Shopping Streets were busy. The canopy they have in front of all the shops keeps the shoppers dry. TW was the only person in town carrying an umbrella. Lots of individual shops rather than the chainstores that we have in the UK. Bit of a coffee culture. TW claims she had the best Lemon & Ginger Tea 'EVER' in one we stopped at. Whoever named the streets must have had salt in their veins. Hardy Street, Collingwood, Trafalgar Square etc. come to mind. We don't mind a bit of rain and were good tourists. Lets face it, a damp day in Nelson is better than a dry one in many other places in the world. We paid a visit to the interesting and impressive Cathedral. Much nicer from the inside than the outside, although that might be because it was raining. It had a massive organ that appeared to be remote controlled? South Street, with its little wooden fisherman's houses was worth a wander once the rain had stopped.
Enjoyable day, despite the weather. Made a bit of a foul up of the food shopping later on. Asked the young lady at the fish counter for enough Monk Fish for two. Came away with a massive piece of fish, enough for 10 hungry Monks!. She was either on commission or a Saturday Assistant with a big appetite. We will be eating Monk fish for days to come. TW was not impressed.
