NZ Holiday - Russell, Bay of Islands

October 4th An Island Hop
Russell - by the shore

A short 15 minute ferry ride, $22 return, from Pahia gets you to the lovely old town of Russell.
It was the first European Settlement in NZ.
Christ Church in Russell

Docking at Russell

Definitely an old colonial feel about the place and a great place for a stroll. Wooden buildings with terraces. A lovely little wooden Church with lots of history. Apparently it is the oldest in New Zealand. We picked up our lunch from The Bakery, our first Kiwi meat pies of this trip. They were very tasty at $4.50 each.
The road to Long Beach
A strong breeze off the sea in town made it chilly so we headed over the hill to Long Beach on the other side of the island. We fell asleep on the grass behind the beach. It is tough being a tourist!
Long Beach
Great views on the way down to Long Beach
