On the run again in January
Bad Hofgastein was a veritable winter wonderland this time. Heavy snow even blocked the train line from Salzburg!
Happily it did not affect us as we took the crafty EasyJet southern passage from Klagenfurt.
TW was still banned from skiing after her wrist fracture but snow-shoeing and meeting up for lunch in a nice Hutte for lunch were definitely on the approved list. The Baerstein Alm was, as usual, the destination of choice. It's only a few minutes walk from the mid station and an easy blue ski ride. This was a particularly sociable trip as it coincided with visits by a number of valley regulars. Yours truly was put in the dog house by one of the Lady members who did not approve of my route selection when we went on a snow shoe walk. Too demanding apparently whoops!

It's a winter wonderland - Angertal
|
Our best snow-shoe experience was a lovely bandy leg stroll up the Angertal valley. It really is a haven of peace and tranquility away from the frenetic downhill skiing.

Swedish fun and games |
Back on the slopes, the Swedish tour group are setting up there weekly picnic. They tend to ski in massive groups so they are a moving crowd and best avoided. They have been called the Yellow Peril as the guides have a yellow jacket. Typically they are good skiers though.
